15 Conference Scholarships Available to NSW Women

NSW Sport and Recreation Minister Kevin Greene has announced fifteen women from NSW will receive scholarships to attend the 5th IWG World Conference on Women and Sport.

The Conference will be held from 20 – 23 May 2010 in Sydney at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“This conference provides a unique opportunity to discuss the global development of women and sport” Mr Greene said.

“The NSW Government is proud to support the IWG and is committed to achieving a real increase in sporting opportunities for NSW women.”

Fifteen NSW women will each receive a $1000 scholarship to attend the conference.  The scholarship will consist of one full early-bird registration valued at $890 and $110 towards travel and accommodation expenses.

Ten scholarships will be awarded to applicants from the broader community and five grants will be awarded to women of Indigenous background.  Women with disabilities, from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds and those living in rural or remote areas are encouraged to apply.

Who is eligible to apply:

-          Women aged 18 years or over on 26 February 2010

-          Permanent residents of New South Wales

-          Women currently involved in either a paid or voluntary capacity in the sport, recreation or physical activity industry in NSW

IWG and Women Win

The IWG has in place a partnership with Women Win for the funding of sporting projects for the empowerment of women and girls in the lead up to the 5th IWG World Conference on Women and Sport, Sydney 2010.

Please note that all rounds of the funding from this initiative have now been completed and no further applications will be received.

Women Win is the first fund of its kind advocating for and defending women’s human rights through the financial support of innovative, self-initiated activities that use sport as a strategy for women’s and girls’ empowerment.
