"Lead the Change, Be the Change"

The theme of the 6th IWG World Conference on Women and Sport is: Lead the Change, Be the Change. The conference, which takes place in Helsinki, Finland, June 12-15, 2014, will emphasize theoretical, policy and practical approaches to the challenges facing the gender equality issues in sport and physical activity.

 AIBA signs the Brighton Declaration on Women and Sport

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) joined the list of signatories of the Brighton Declaration on April 2, 2012. AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu used the opportunity to comment on AIBA's ongoing commitment to promote women in sport, stating, "It is very appropriate that AIBA has signed the Brighton Declaration in 2012. 2012 is a landmark year in the development of women's boxing. This summer, in London, women boxers will compete in the Olympic Games for the first time. This will be a proud moment for all women boxers and for AIBA."

IWG Annual Meeting is held in Tokyo

The International Working Group on Women and Sport gathered for its 2012 Annual Meeting in Tokyo, Japan, April 19-20 for two days of information sharing, discussion and decision-making.

Japan: Women and Sport Summit 2012

The Women and Sport Summit 2012 was held at Juntendo University in Tokyo, Japan. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Japan (MEXT), the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and Juntendo University.

 A scholarly analysis of the IWG Progress Reports 1994-2010

A content analysis of the four existing IWG Progress reports published during 1994-2010 was conducted by the Anita White Foundation and the University of Chichester (UK). The resulting report entitled: “Analysis and Review of International Working Group on Women and Sport Progress Reports 1994-2010” was written by Jordan J.K. Matthews with input from experts Dr. Elizabeth C.J. Pike and Dr. Anita White.

Cari Champion is an experienced TV host and journalist.  She’s worked for all three major US networks and is currently an anchor and reporter for the Tennis Channel.  She’s covered every major sport as well as major athletes, including Jack Nicklaus, the Williams sisters and Andre Agassi.

Report shows gender gap in physical activity between UK school-aged girls and boys

A new report by the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation (WSFF) shows that girls in the UK are not getting enough exercise – and that schools hold the key to encouraging girls to get active. The report, based on research carried out by the Institute of Youth Sport at Loughborough University, shows that half of all girls (51%) are put off from physical activity by their experiences of school sport and physical education.
