IWG Co-Chair Raija Mattila serves as speaker at Africa International Sports Convention, Marrakech, Morocco

IWG Co-Chair Raija Mattila was invited to speak at CISA 2011, which has recently held in Marrakech, Morocco, March 17-19, 2011. It was a honor for IWG to be involved in the annual convention and Mattila was pleased to be able to contribute perspectives on gender equality to the convention procedings.

What’s the status of women on sport boards? IWG's 'Sydney Scoreboard' aims to keep score.

Despite stunning progress on the sport field in the past 100 years, women’s representation off the field remains a serious challenge.  At the most recent summer Olympic Games, in Beijing, women’s athletes made up almost half (42%) of all athletes, however women continue to be markedly under-represented in the sport board room.

Gender equality in sport at CSW 55

At the 55th meeting of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York City, representatives of the global women’s sport advocacy network presented an exciting panel “Relational aspects of gender equality in sport: male-female collaborative advocacy.”

 

Promoting Women in International Sport for All

IWG met recently with TAFISA, The Association For International Sport for All, during a Sports Clubs For Health Workshop in Vantaa, Finland.  The meeting was primarily for the two bodies to learn more about each other and ways in which they can cooperate to benefit women in the Sport for All movement. 

More than 250 executives gather at IMD for women’s leadership event

On Thursday and Friday March 10-11, more than 250 female business leaders came together on IMD’s campus in Lausanne, Switzerland for the Women in Leadership Conference, an event co-hosted with WIN.

Gender Equity Project at European Athletics

In 2009, the European Commission in Sport decided to allocate a grant to the Netherlands athletic federation Atletikunie for its two-year long project “Closing The Leadership Gender Gap In European Athletics”.

Thoughts on the Women's Sport in Africa Conference by Anita White

I was pleased to be able to attend this conference, organised by Michelle Sikes, a Rhodes Scholar and Ph D student at the University of Oxford. It was supported by Oxford’s African Studies centre, the Royal African Society/ African Studies Association (UK) and the British Society of Sport Historians, and brought together 25- 30 academics with an interest in women and sport in Africa from 3 continents: Africa, Europe and North America.
